Person-Centered Supports

New Vitae Wellness and Recovery believes that Veterans have specialized needs and preferences that require individualized care.  Our services are based on the recovery model and the provision of person-centered supports to ensure customized care for each Veteran seeking to achieve his or her personal wellness goals.

What are Person-Centered Supports?  How does this concept impact Veteran’s services?

Person-Centered Support services are designed around each Veteran’s needs and preferences.  Veterans are asked to identify their personal recovery goals in order to determine what types of services might best assist with attaining those goals.  We emphasize life planning. Our services are one of many sources that support Veterans to achieve an individualized vision of recovery.  New Vitae’s strength-based approach uses the skills, relationships, cultural practices, and talents each Veteran possesses in order to assist with development of his or her wellness “tool kit.”  Our staff is able to assist with breaking down larger goals and providing personalized support to assist with achieving lasting changes.

While the media may present a specific image of the needs of veterans, New Vitae hopes to meet with each Veteran to review his or her personal needs, listen to the stories of Veterans, and design an individualized plan for services.  Support is available for those experiencing brain injury (acquired/traumatic injuries), increased anxiety, difficulties with mood, addiction, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), strained relationships, co-occurring disorders, or other challenges in order to best help each Veteran.

Types of person-centered support that can be offered to Veterans includes:

  • Medication Education and Administration Services
  • Licensed Addictions Counseling
  • 12 Step Meetings
  • Mentoring Services for Skill Building
  • Celebrate Recovery Meetings
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy Group
  • Recreational Activity
  • Use of Certified Peer Specialist services
  • Partial Hospital Groups
  • Prevocational and Community Employment
  • Volunteer Opportunities
  • Educational training/opportunities

To personalize services even more, New Vitae Wellness and Recovery is proud to offer GeneSight testing and Alpha Stim support.  GeneSight testing uses a sample of genetic material to identify the best antidepressants and antipsychotic medications for service participants.  In this way, our psychiatrists can make the most informed decisions when writing new prescriptions.  Alpha Stim machines offer electrical stimulation, which has been shown to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety and improve symptoms of insomnia. These and other services can be incorporated into a personalized wellness plan.

How do New Vitae’s services work with the services I receive from the VA?

New Vitae works with local Veteran administration offices to provide behavioral health services while keeping Veterans connected to other forms of support including a relationship with their military family.  While we are able to provide additional holistic options and assist with exploring a variety of healthcare services, Veterans’ preferences to continue to directly utilize VA services are welcomed.

Costs associated with accessing our services are frequently offset through insurance coverage.  We are also proud to offer funding for qualifying Veterans through our recent appropriation.
