David Behar, MD

Dr. Behar attended Hahnemann University Medical School, which is now part of Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He had psychiatry residency training at the State University of New York: Stony Brook, and at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.  He interrupted his child psychiatry fellowship to work at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) for several years, offering insight into the challenges associated with behavioral health diagnoses. He ultimately completed his child psychiatry training at Columbia University in New York.   He briefly delayed starting his practice when he obtained a position centered on training other psychiatrists.  His passion for helping others has ultimately led him to work with individuals who experience intense behavioral health symptoms and those who frequently find little relief from traditional treatment methods.

Board certified in both Child and Adult Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Behar’s sense of humor and willingness to listen to the personal stories of residents and service participants has resulted in a number of recovery goal successes.  Dr. Behar is licensed to prescribe Suboxone (Buprenorphine) for those seeking medication assisted treatment; he is also certified as a deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation operator.  He currently serves as the Medical Director for New Vitae Wellness and Recovery.  Over many years of service, he has remained current with evidence-based therapeutic techniques, and looks forward to many more years of helping people achieve individualized versions of health and wellness.

"Thank you so much for helping me start the healing process in a positive way.  I was apprehensive that the program would be right for me and that I could succeed.  I have been able to reinvent myself as a calmer, happier, sober person."

- Diane A. (former treatment participant)
