New Vitae Wellness and Recovery Marks Veterans Day with Special EventDecember 4, 2018
LIMEPORT, PA (December 2018) – New Vitae Wellness and Recovery honored Veterans Day with a special event that included an observance of military anthems, a performance by a dance group, an acknowledgment of veterans who serve as staff members at New Vitae, as well as brief remarks from Christine LeClair from Compeer CORPS.
LeClair spoke about the volunteer program at Compeer, a Lehigh Valley organization that connect Lehigh and Northampton County adults who live with a chronic, long-term mental illness in friendship matches with adult volunteers. LeClair is the organization’s Veteran and Volunteer Coordinator responsible for matching Veterans with volunteers that will provide the comfort and reassurance needed for coping with mental illness.
New Vitae focuses many of its behavioral and residential treatment services on the particular needs of veterans. Since the opening of the organization’s Veterans Pathways home, residents who are military veterans have been very active, engaging in activities to further support one other and their own recovery goals. In addition to hiking, fishing, and kayaking, veterans are able to garden, share board games, and participate in a variety of art projects. One group of veterans is preparing and painting rocks to install a rock garden at various corporate and clinical sites.
At New Vitae, veterans participating in clinical services also have opportunities to be creative via drawing and woodworking, including crafting a decorative sign to hang in the common space. Veterans also enjoyed traveling to local sites of interest, including the Garden of Reflection in Bucks County.
