Sanctuary Model Supervision Training

July 26, 2016

On July 21st, 2016, New Vitae Wellness and Recovery hosted our own Trauma Liaison Specialist Joseph Foderaro, LCSW and Clinical Director Armand DiYenno, LCSW, ACSW to engage employees in conversation about the supervision process using the lens of the Sanctuary Model. Foderaro is one of the founders of the Sanctuary Model, and both gentlemen have a long history of developing and providing Sanctuary training and educational opportunities.

The discussion began with a brief review of the Sanctuary Commitments, including: nonviolence, emotional intelligence, social learning, democracy, open communication, social responsibility, and growth and change.   Presenters also reviewed the SELF model, discussing the value of safety and emotional management in the workplace, the universality of loss, and the importance of self-determination in creating one’s future.  Participants had the opportunity to assist with the development of corporate policy that guides the process of employee supervision.  Additionally, the speakers provided participants with an opportunity to role play the process of Sanctuary Model supported group supervision.  Overall, the training provided the opportunity for staff to develop their skills as well-informed, supportive supervisors.  The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) supported the event, making continuing education credits available for individuals seeking CEU's.
