New Vitae Wellness and Recovery Residents Display Art in Local Show

October 14, 2016

Seven residents from the New Vitae Wellness and Recovery Pathways Apartment Program and Quakertown House had their work exhibited in the Norristown State Hospital Art Festival on Thursday, October 13th.  The artwork, created using supports from ArtZ studio in Quakertown, utilized a variety of themes and mediums to create colorfully designed pieces. Two residents were awarded ribbons and prize money for their entries: Franklin L. won a third place prize for his painting titled, "Roller Rainbow," and Rich E. won a second place award for a hand-woven basket he made.

"It was great to see the residents' artwork exhibited for others to see," said Donna Devlin, Executive Administrator of New Vitae Wellness and Recovery.  "Creating art can be a therapeutic process that facilitates self-expression, physical dexterity, and self-esteem.  Having these works displayed and appreciated was a fantastic opportunity."

Following the exhibit and awards, residents celebrated their success at a local eatery, sharing stories of their favorite artists and talking about the show.  Residents remain excited to create additional artwork and many are considering participation in other local art shows, including one scheduled by New Vitae Wellness and Recovery in spring of 2017.
