Suicide: The Ripple Effect Screening

May 16, 2018

The New Vitae Wellness Foundation was honored to host a showing of “Suicide: The Ripple Effect,” on May 11th, 2018.  The documentary focused on Kevin Hines – a guest speaker for the Foundation in October of 2016 – and his personal journey following his attempt to end his life at age 19 after jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.  The movie highlighted Kevin’s goals and his contact with his international colleagues, as well as the combined effort to emphasize personal wellness and recovery.   The documentary also recorded the movement that recently resulted in local officials approving safety nets for the Golden Gate Bridge.

New Vitae Wellness Foundation welcomed approximately sixty audience members at Regal Cinemas Richland Crossing Stadium 12 in Quakertown for the event.  NAMI, Bucks County Pennsylvania and Lehigh Valley NAMI members were also present to offer support and information to attendees.  Judith Yanacek, President and CEO of New Vitae Wellness and Recovery and certified QPR Gatekeeper Instructor, offered an overview of the evidence-based QPR (Question-Persuade-Refer), an intervention designed to prevent suicide, to introduce the documentary.  Following the film, New Vitae awarded raffle winners tokens of our appreciation, including a basket that contained a copy of Cracked, Not Broken: Surviving and Thriving After a Suicide Attempt (Mr. Hines’ autobiography).

New Vitae Wellness Foundation wishes to thank our community supporters for their attendance at this important event.  Please consider keeping in touch with us to learn more about our future events!

Our brother has lived at Quakertown House for 31 years. He has been treated with kindness and compassion. We are grateful that he is in a safe and supportive environment.
